Defination
-Endometriosis is a disease condition in which there is presence of endometrial tissue both glands and stroma outside the uterus.
-The tissue is confirmed to be endometrial as it responds to hormones in cyclic manner.
Etiology
- Genitic factor -risk becomes 7 times more if it is present in first degree relatives
- Immunological factors
- previous infection & inflammation
symptoms
- Dysmenorrhea
- Dyspareunia
- deep pelvic pain
- hematuria
- Infertility
sign
- tenderness & nodularity incul-de-sac
- retroverted uterus
- Adnexal tenderness
- presence of adnexal mass
Investigation
- Ultrasonography-trans abdominal & transvaginal
- laporoscopy
- cystoscopy for involment of bladder
Managment
- for asymptomatic cases, close observation should be done for 6-8 month & investigation for infertility
- for symptomatic cases,there is medical as well as surgical managment
medical managment-
- combined oral contraceptives
- oral progesterone
- Dannazole
surgical management
- laporotomy
- dissection & excision of cyst
- if the women has complete her family salpingo oophorectomy or hysterectomy can be also done
